A Conversation with Lexi Castillo on Fitness, Pilates & Sustainable Wellness
The Biggest Fitness Myth Women Still Believe
According to fitness coach and newly certified Pilates instructor Lexi, one of the most damaging misconceptions women face is the belief that getting fit automatically means losing weight.
“Every woman’s body is different, every background is different, and not everyone’s goal should be chasing the same physique.”
She believes social media, unrealistic beauty standards, and diet culture have created a narrow definition of what health is supposed to look like. But fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all.
For one woman, getting in shape might mean losing weight. For another, it could mean gaining weight, improving health markers, increasing energy, or simply feeling stronger and more confident in her body.
Why Most People Fail Before They Even Begin
One of the biggest mistakes Lexi sees is people trying to change everything at once.
“If you’ve spent years building certain habits, why would you expect yourself to completely change them in a week?”
Instead of focusing on perfection, she encourages people to focus on small, realistic habits that can be repeated consistently.
The goal isn’t intensity.
The goal is sustainability.
The Truth About “Eating Clean”
Lexi believes healthy eating is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the wellness industry.
Healthy eating doesn’t mean surviving on salads or eliminating every food you enjoy.
Instead, she encourages women to focus on:
- Eating enough
- Prioritizing protein
- Fueling their bodies properly
- Creating habits they can maintain long-term
“You should be able to go out with friends, enjoy meals with family, and still make progress without guilt.”
For Lexi, balance will always outperform restriction.
Why Pilates Deserves More Respect
Many people assume Pilates is simply stretching or flexibility training.
Lexi disagrees.
Pilates develops:
- Core strength
- Stability
- Mobility
- Posture
- Body awareness
- Movement quality
And contrary to popular belief, it’s not easy.
“The boys in the gym lifting six days a week can barely make it through a class.”
As someone with years of strength training experience and a Pilates certification, Lexi believes the two forms of exercise complement one another beautifully.
Three Habits Every Woman Can Start This Week
When asked where someone should begin, Lexi keeps it simple:
- Move more.
- Prioritize protein and eat enough.
- Focus on consistency before intensity.
The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is proving to yourself that you can keep showing up.
The Message Every Woman Needs to Hear
The final message Lexi shared may have been the most powerful.
“I wish every woman understood that exercise should never be approached as punishment.”
Movement isn’t something we do because we hate our bodies.
It’s something we do because we care for them.
Her advice is simple:
Stop chasing the smallest version of yourself and start building the strongest version of yourself.
